Brain imaging plays an increasingly important role in Parkinson’s disease clinical trials, from confirming diagnosis, enriching patient populations and stratifying into subgroups to monitoring disease progression and potential treatment effects. This webinar will explore how imaging can be used at different stages of a trial, and how sponsors can align imaging choices with study objectives.
Join IXICO and our panel of experts on 24 June 2026 for a practical discussion on how SPECT, PET and MRI can support Parkinson’s disease clinical trial design, participant selection, and outcome assessment.
What the webinar will cover
- Translating Imaging into PD Trial Design and Outcomes - Learn how SPECT/PET and MRI are used for diagnostic confirmation, cohort enrichment, patient stratification, and to monitor disease progression / drug efficacy.
- Selecting the Right Imaging Biomarkers - Gain insight into how to choose and implement SPECT/PET and MRI measures based on intended use.
Why attend
Whether you are new to imaging or already experienced in clinical trials, this session will provide practical insight into the use of imaging in a regulated trial setting. It is designed for clinical trial sponsors, PIs, scientists, and operational teams who want to better understand the role imaging can play in Parkinson’s disease trials.
Agenda
- Welcome and introduction by Robin Wolz, CSO and CMO at IXICO
- Speaker presentation from Martijn Müller on the current Parkinson’s disease clinical trial landscape and the use of SPECT/PET imaging across trial stages
- Speaker presentation from Kirsi Kinnunen on the use of MRI techniques and their role in PD trials
- Closing reflections on the importance of using imaging
- Q&A
About the speakers and moderator
Martijn Müller PhD, Professor of Translational Neuroscience, Manchester Metropolitan University
Professor Martijn Müller is Professor of Translational Neuroscience at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU). He specialises in neurodegenerative disorders, particularly Parkinson's disease, focusing on the relationship between neuroimaging biomarkers, cognitive decline, and mobility problems.
Kirsi Kinnunen, PhD - Principal Biomarker Scientist, IXICO.
Kirsi is a senior clinical neuroscientist (PhD) and Chartered Psychologist with nearly 20 years of clinical neuroscience research experience. She focuses on brain imaging in clinical trials, with expertise in Parkinsonian disorders, Alzheimer's disease and other types of dementia, Huntington's disease, Spinocerebellar ataxia, and other CNS disorders. Kirsi provides scientific input and imaging planning help during the development and maintenance stages of clinical trials.
Moderator – Robin Wolz - Chief Medical Officer, IXICO
Robin Wolz has over 15 years of experience in the development of innovative analytics solutions in healthcare with a focus on imaging technology. Prior to IXICO, Robin held different roles at Philips in the Research and Diagnostic X-Ray divisions. Robin holds a PhD in medical imaging and computer science from Imperial College London, focused on early detection of Alzheimer's disease. He is the co-author of more than 100 publications and holds multiple patents in the field of medical imaging and AI data analytics.
