As our great team continues to grow we are looking to hire a Head of IT in a full-time capacity.

Purpose of the role:

The Head of IT will manage all aspects of IT in our company, including leading the IT team, managing the day-to-day IT operations and the implementation of new IT systems and policies.

The Head of IT will be an an engaging individual with an excellent technical background, while able to effectively manage and motivate the team of currently four. The ideal candidate will be experienced in creating and implementing IT policies and systems that align with and support delivery of ambitious Company objectives.

The goal is to ensure IT processes are effective, competitive and function within the limits of budget, time and requirements of the company.

IXICO operates in a highly regulated environment and is subject to internal and external audits. Our clients expect the highest levels of data and systems security and a robust IT infrastructure. The Head of IT is expected to be up to date on developments in technology and risks/threats to the seamless operation of IT systems (both internal and external) to mitigate as far as possible any risk of technological interruption to the operations of the Company or delivery of services to its clients.

Responsibilities

Operational:

  • Manage all operational day-to-day and project activities
  • Define objectives for the IT team, measure progress against these objectives and implement actions to ensure delivery of these objectives to lead the team to success
  • Update, devise and establish IT policies and systems to support the implementation of strategies set by the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Procure efficient and cost-effective technology equipment, services and software, while ensuring delivery of required functionality.
  • Meet the high standards of Information Security, Validation, Data Protection and Quality required by IXICO; take a leadership role in moving the Company to ISO27001 compliance.
  • Continously review existing systems and identify the need for upgrades.
  • Devise and implement development objectives for the IT team to ensure they hold the appropriate skills required to support technology adopted by the Company.
  • Assist in building relationships with vendors and achieving cost-efficient contracts.

Strategic & Financial:

  • Analyse business requirements to determine technology needs, ensuring IT priorities align with those of the Company as a whole
  • Develop and deliver a plan of IT initiatives, with assigned responsibilities, in line with agreed budget parameters and timelines, reporting progress against KPIs monthly
  • Set the annual budget for the IT department and manage IT expenditure against the approved budget (and as adjusted following quarterly forecast revisions), ensuring, at all times, alignment with the wider Company priorities
  • Lead relevant, cross-function, Change Management activities to ensure alignment, and best use, of available technologies to support the Company

Requirements

  • Proven experience as Head of IT or similar role, preferably in a scientific environment (Life Sciences, Pharma, Research etc.)
  • BSc in Computer Science, Engineering or relevant field
  • Strong people management skills and experience in leadership and mentoring of team members
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • Experience in analysis, implementation and evaluation of IT systems and their specifications
  • Sound understanding of computer systems – hardware, applications software, operating systems networks, security, Cloud etc.
  • Commitment to continual improvement
  • Comfortable with a wide range of technologies
  • Ability to communicate at all levels and with the appropriate level of detail
  • Knowledge of IT trends to build strategy
  • Experience in developing and managing IT budgets
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Effective negotiation and vendor management skills
  • Proactive acting and thinking
